DAR holds dialogue with Mindanao Indigenous People (IP) Tribal Leaders

news national 1 pix 1 october 19 2018Quezon City (October 19, 2018)- Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Secretary John R. Castriciones (sitting) held a dialogue yesterday at the DAR Central Office, with 13 Mindanao Indigenous People (IP) leaders from Mindanao, led by Datu Lipatuan Joel Unad (seventh from right). The dialogue’s objective was to address the agrarian-related issues and concerns of the IPs in Region IX, X, XI, XII, and CARAGA.

One of the issues presented was 5 hectares of alienable and disposable lands in Barangay San Juan and San Luis in Agusan del Sur which was allegedly not given to the actual tillers of the land.

Castriciones assured the group that he will look into this problem by creating a task force that can provide recommendations on all the issues presented. The latter provided names of regional representatives who will coordinate with the DAR task force to be created.

Prior to the dialogue, the group gave Castriciones an indigenous attire to symbolize unity and bring peace and better understanding among them during the discussions.
